Many of us may have heard the African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The truth that is resonating with me so much from this statement is the power of community to help you persevere in life, especially during the times we’re currently experiencing. I’ve been guilty of being so Miss Independent that I rarely reach out for help, leaning on my self-sufficiency so much that many times I find myself alone. The reality of isolation during the months we’ve been quarantined has helped me to see just how much I do value the people in my life and how much I really do crave community, even when I’m on the vibe of “I can do bad all by myself.”
2020 has made us all shift in many ways. As we bring in 2021, I’m thinking more about how I can stay connected with those I love, those I want to get to know more, and those I want to be aligned with to network and grow in business. I’m thinking about who I consider in my tight circle and who my tribe is that I can stay in touch with regularly so that I won’t look up one day and realize that I haven’t reached out to anyone in months. I know that we are back to our normal work schedules now and back to being busy as ever, but this week I challenge you to carve out some time to make a list of who is in your Top 5 — your tribe that you can put in a group text or think of how to connect 1:1 some regular way like a weekly Zoom lunch or evening wine down. It will improve your mental health, increase your sense of belonging, and even spark unexpected connections or lightbulb moments that bring success in different areas of your life.
